Ack van Rooijen brought a moving tribute to one of his heroes, Clark Terry, with whom he was touring and playing during the 70’s. Ack recently received the Boy Edgar Award out of the hands of Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte, to honour him with his musical achievements during his impressive career.
This show was part of the concertseries ‘You’re in the Army Now’, that shines the limelight on legendary jazz musicians that served in the US Army during WWI. An underrated connection, because many jazz musicians weren’t only schooled in the Army Bands, but they also served as a stepping stone in their careers.
