'Shimmering gems like Themesong with gifted melodies and famous Coltranesque developments' - La Vanguardia
'Music with guts, surprising harmonies and sturdy solos' - Trouw
'A strong album with fresh and inventive mainstream jazz with swinging hardbop and subtle, lyrical ballads' - AD Haagsche Courant
'A Smooth Journey' is the second album that Edgar Van Asselt invited tenor saxophonist David Schnitter for. Belgium trumpeter Nico Schepers is extending the line-up into a quintet on some of the tracks. The rhythmn section, consisting of Frans van Geest and Joost van Schaik is hard swinging and supportive. Both Schnitter and Van Asselt contributed material for this album, which got raving reviews in the press.
